1991 NFL
In 1991, the division winners in the AFC were Buffalo in the East, Houston in the Central, and Denver in the West, with the Wild-Cards going to New York, Kansas City, and Los Angeles. In the NFC, it was Washington in the East, Detroit in the Central, and New Orleans in the West, with the Wild-Cards going to Dallas, Chicago, and Atlanta. In the AFC Wild-Card Playoffs, the Chiefs won a tough battle with the Raiders 10-6, while the Oilers took care of the Jets 17-10. In the NFC, the Cowboys jumped out to an early 10-0 first quarter lead and would hang on to beat the Bears 17-13, while the Falcons took care of the Saints 27-20. In the AFC Divisional Playoffs it was Buffalo rolling over the Chiefs 37-14, while the Broncos and John Elway would engineer another last minute comeback against the Oilers 26-24. In the NFC, the Lions would destroy the Cowboys 38-6, while the Redskins would defeat the Falcons 24-7. In the conference championship games, the Bills would win a tough defensive battle with the Broncos, which would go into halftime with a
0-0 tie. The Bills didn't do much on offense, but did manage just enough to squeeze out a 10-7 victory. In the NFC, the Redskins had no trouble with the Lions, as they crushed them 41-10, setting up the match-ups for Super Bowl XXVI. The Redskins defeated the Bills by the score of 37–24, becoming the fourth team after the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Oakland Raiders, and the San Francisco 49ers to win three Super Bowls. The Redskins jumped to a 24–0 lead early in the third quarter, from which the Bills could not recover.  Washington also sacked Kelly four times and intercepted him four times. Rypien, who completed 18 of 33 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception, was named Super Bowl MVP.
