In 1995, the league expanded to 30 teams with the addition of the Carolina Panthers and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The two expansion teams were slotted into the two remaining divisions that had only four teams (while the other four had five teams): the AFC Central (Jaguars) and the NFC West (Panthers). Meanwhile, the two teams in Los Angeles relocated to other cities: the Rams transferred to St. Louis and the Raiders moved back to Oakland. During the course of the season it emerged that the Cleveland Browns would relocate to Baltimore for the 1996 season. Division winners in the AFC were Buffalo in the East, Pittsburgh in the Central, and Kansas City in the West, with the Wild-Cards going to Indianapolis, Miami, and San Diego. In the NFC, it was Dallas in the East, Green Bay in the Central, and San Francisco in the West, with the Wild-Cards going to Philadelphia, Detroit, and Atlanta. In the AFC Wild-Card Playoffs, the Bills would roll over the Dolphins 37-22, while the Colts would do the same to the Chargers 35-20. In the NFC, the Packers would have no trouble with the Falcons, while the Eagles would destroy the Lions 58-37. In the AFC Divisional Playoffs, the
Steelers would roll over the Bills 40-21, while the Colts would win a tight defensive battle over the Chiefs 10-7. In the NFC, the Cowboys took care of the Eagles 30-11, while the Packers defeated the 49ers 27-17. In the conference championship games, the Steelers would get by a tough Colts team 20-16 in the AFC, while the Cowboys would score 14 unansered points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Packers 38-27, to set up the match-ups for Super Bowl XXX. The Cowboys defeated the Steelers by the score of 27–17. The game was played on January 28, 1996, at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. Dallas' Larry Brown, a 12th-round draft pick, became the first cornerback to be named Super Bowl MVP by recording two interceptions in the second half, which the Cowboys converted into two touchdowns to prevent a Steelers comeback. Dallas built a 13–0 lead in the second quarter before the Pittsburgh scored with 13 seconds left in the half to cut their deficit to 13–7. Midway through the 3rd quarter, Brown made his first interception and returned it 44 yards to the Pittsburgh 18-yard line to set up running back Emmitt Smith's 1-yard touchdown run. The Steelers then rallied to cut their deficit to 20–17 in the 4th quarter. But Brown recorded his second interception on Pittsburgh's next drive, and returned it to 33 yards to the Steelers 6-yard line to set up Smith's 4-yard rushing touchdown.
