2008 GFL
2008 was a very tightly contested season for the German Football League, as both the North Conference and the South Conference were decided by one game or less. In the North, it was the Kiel Hurricanes and the Braunschweig Lions finishing tied at the top of the conference at 8-3-1, with the tie-breaker going to the Lions, while in the South, it was the Marburg Mercenaries (9-3-0) getting by the Stuttgart Scorpions (8-4-0) by a single game. The top four teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs, and the right to compete for 30th German Bowl Championship. In the first round of the playoffs, it was the Kiel Hurricanes over the Weinheim Longhorns 47-21, the Marburg Mercenaries over the Dresden Monarchs 32-21, the Braunschweig Lions over the Munich Cowboys 32-10, and the Berlin Adler upsetting the Stuttgart Scorpions in a tight defensive battle 9-6. In the semi-finals, it was the Kiel Hurricanes over the Berlin Adler 17-12, while the Braunschweig Lions would roll over the Marburg Mercenaries 49-21, setting up the match-up for German Bowl XXX. On September 27, 2008, the Kiel Hurricanes and the Braunschweig Lions faced each other at the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt am Main . The Braunschweig Lions would go on to win the game 20-14 and lay claim to the 30th German Bowl Championship. The game's Most Valuable Player would go to the Lions Running Back Michael Andrew.
