1962 ACFL
The Atlantic Coast Football League (ACFL) was a professional American football minor league that operated from 1962 to 1973. Until 1969, many of its franchises had working agreements with NFL and AFL teams to serve as farm clubs. The league paid a base salary of $100 per game and had 36 players on each active roster. On the field, the Paterson Miners and the Providence Steam Roller would finish with identical 8-1 records. Providence actually had an 8-1-1 record, but ties did not count in the standings in those days. So the Miners and the Steam Roller would play for the 1962 ACFL Championship in the Atlantic City Convention Hall, on December 16, 1962. Paterson would go on to win the game 17-14 in a double overtime thriller.
